Since installing the Appeon beta I cannot start an ASA8 database. I get the
following error.

<<Connection failed: Database cannot be started -- server must be upgraded
to start c:\xxx\yyy.db (capability 6 missing).>>

If I turn off the appeonsample database then the ASA8 databases start just
fine.

I got this. But when installing a product, the version of the database
installed should not interfere with other databases, IMHO.

<<ASA 7.0.0 introduced database "capabilities". With "capabilities", a
database server supports a set of features and a database file
specifies which features it requires from the server. If the file
requires a feature that the server does not support, the server will
not start the database. For example, if you start an ASA 7 engine on a
database file created by ASA 8, you will get a message such as
"Database cannot be started -- server must be upgraded to start
asademo.db (capability 6 missing)." ASA 7 has no idea what capability
6 is because it was introduced in a later version (and that's why ASA7
cannot give it a name when reporting the problem). When a database
file is upgraded, those capabilities that dbupgrad can add to a file
are added -- otherwise they are left alone. No more looking for system
tables, columns, etc. Capabilities can be examined by client
applications via the db_property function (e.g db_property(
'SeparateForeignKeys')).>>

Larry,

Appeon 2.1 Beta, Build 147 is not compatible with ASA 8. I suspect this is
way you are having so many database-related problems. Please make sure that
your system meets all the system requirements specified in the Appeon
Installation Guide provided with the drop.

I suggest you try installing the package to another computer that has
(PowerBuilder 8.0.2, EAServer 4.1.3, and ASA 7 on Windows NT 4). There are
a few bugs with Windows 2000. If you are still having problems let me know
and we will help troubleshoot.

Thanks for taking the time to evaluate the beta and provide feedback.

Best regards,

Armeen

It is not quite that easy to just configure another machine for me with that
config. Also when you install PB8 or EAServer (I don't remember which) they
install PB8. I try and stick with the latest releases, which is what many
clients do as well.

I'll verify the APPeon installation guide again.
