Looking into migrating from 11.0.3 for unix to 12.5 (when it comes out)
running on Red Hat (6.2 Enterprise Edition-optimized for Oracle8i). I'll be
testing out the migration process using the 12.5 linux beta. I'll have to
migrate a few databases (one of which is 8 Gigabytes), and also move SQR
programs over to the test platform. Any advice on how to go about the
migration process, such as steps involved, BCP, etc?

Thanks!

^^^^^^^^??!?

I don't think that would be of much help to you, but the less
said about it the better.

It won't be easy for you. Straight dumps and loads won't work due
to endian issues (unless your 11.0.3 Unix version is on Intel hardware).
Even then, its better to start with a new server due to the leap
in versions you are making.

You'll need to extract your schema first (if you don't keep it).
There are plenty of third party tools that can do this - both free
and commercial. DBArtisan from Embarcadero reputedly does the whole
lot.

Check the posts in these newsgroups. The answers should provide
enough tips (check the Sybase FAQ at http://www.isug.com/Sybase_FAQ/
for links to the free tools). You could also do a staged migration by
using CIS and proxy tables - this is especially useful if you don't
have a window of opportunity wide enough to do the lot in one hit.
