Long ago, we migrated our code from PB 11 to PB 12 classic.

I really want to take the most recent code we have now in
PB12.1 classic, and build it in 11. Is this possible? I seem
to be having trouble opening the pbl's in PB.

I'm fairly certain that you cannot open the PBLs, but you should be able
to export/import the individual objects - at least for those objects that
have not been modified to use functionality/syntax that is not available
in the older version. Datawindows that have been modified in PB12 will
likely need to be recreated - unless you are supremely skilled at creating
some sort of automated mechanism that can undo/remove PB12 syntax.

yes.

create a 11 application pbl, then add all your 12 pbls to it.
everything but the datawindows will be fine (unless you use any 12
specific syntax in those objects). regen them.

the datawindows you will need to change the version number from 12 back
to 11 (only if they have a 12 in them), and also remove the 12 specific
stuff in them. this will be the biggest pain.

That is good news for the windows.

For the Datawindows, besides changing 12 in the edit
source... what else are you referring to as needing to be
changed?

If a 12.0 datawindow had a column added to it... does that
need to be removed?

There is easily 300+ datawindows in this application.

PB 12 introduced a *LOT* of new capabilities and corresponding
properties in the DW, so the DW source syntax is not backwards compatible.

To see for yourself, I suggest you create the same test datawindow in PB
11 and in PB 12; export the object in each version and compare the
exported source files with a Visual Diff tool -or- simply Edit Source in
both versions ... you'll quickly see the many differences.

no, don't remove columns. just features in 12 that don't exist in prior.

enabled and showfocusrectangle on text objects for example (that may
just be 12.5, which i am running).

try to regen it, and if you get errors edit the script.
this is not an easy process, and if you have a lot of them, it could
prove to be too much work without writing some sort of automation

i would try 12.51 rather than go back to 11.

Only those DataWindows modified in PB12 will have PB12 version number
and syntax in them.
