Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to run the Full Text search engine
(EFTS) on a separate logical machine from the ASE to which it talks?

From a pure network/socket perspective I don't see why not, but I
wonder if there is some magic going on in the connection negociation
between the ASE and the EFTS that could inhibit this.

I suppose I could try, but I figured I'd ask here first...

Thanks!

Michael

A few years ago I worked with a client running EFTS 12.5.4.

The development machine was grossly underpowered and over used ... and that was before trying to run any cpu-intensive
EFTS index builds on said machine.

To speed up EFTS index creations I would have an ASE instance on the development machine reference a remote textserver
running on another machine that had spare cpu cycles.

Soooo, having the ASE and EFTS servers on different machines is doable.

Thanks Mark - I'll give that a try!
