Hi.
I have problem with configuration of Warm-Standby replication.
I am unable to start RepAgent on my ACTIVE Sybase ASE server.

* Servers: RepServer and ASE Active are accessible to each other
* I have configured RepAgent on ASE Active with login/password
and I am able to login to RS using this credentials.
* I have granted connect source to RS user
* I created logical connection to ACTIVE using 'log transfer on'

When I try to run:

sp_start_rep_agent <mydbname>:

I get:

Sybase ASE ACTIVE errorlog:
===========================
00:02:00000:00256:2013/01/16 13:01:51.70 server Error: 9261, Severity:

00:02:00000:00256:2013/01/16 13:01:51.70 server RepAgent(5): This Rep
Agent Thread is aborting due to an unrecoverable communications or
Replication Server error.
00:02:00000:00256:2013/01/16 13:01:51.70 server Rep Agent Thread for
database 'myDB' (dbid = 5) terminated abnormally with error. (major 92,
minor 61)

Replication Server errorlog:
============================
E. 2013/01/16 12:35:32. ERROR #14025 USER(sa) - /execint.c(2628)
Replication Agent for 'active.myDB' is not configured to connect.

Any suggestions?

Best Regards

How did you create you rep agent and the database definition in the repserver?

Did you use rs_init, with or without a resource file? Or did you attempt to set everything up via individual commands?

Hi.
Thank you.
Your question helped me to solve my problem but I don't know
what I did wrong.

I configured Active connection by "rs_init" and it works!
RepAgent is also running without errors.

Can you tell me why I have to configure connections via rs_init?

I used to execute rs_init just to initialize RepServer after installation.
Everything else i did from isql:

RepServer connections:
=======================
"create logical connection..."

and

"create connection to ...
...
with log transfer on
as active for <my_logical_connection>"

RepAgent configuration (on ASE active side)
===========================================
use <mydb>
go
sp_setrepproc rs_update_lastcommit,'table'
go
sp_reptostandby <mydb>, 'all'
go
exec sp_config_rep_agent '<mydb>', 'enable'....
go
exec sp_config_rep_agent '<mydb>', 'send warm standby xacts', 'true'
go
sp_start_rep_agent <mydb>
go

What is the difference between rs_init and above manual configuration?
Did I miss something?

Best regards

You don't *have* to use rs_init, but using rs_init is typically easier/faster and less prone to problems.

As for what step(s) you missed ... *shrug* ... I'm so used to using rs_init and resource files that I'd have to run some
tests and look through logs.
