Hi All,

We are going through one serious problem related to rep
agent,
REcently we loaded one of our test database from prod dump (
having rep configuration).

Now we are trying to setup the replication again. Rest
everything is fine, but its not allowing the startup of rep
agent. Even we are not able to enable/disable of rep agent.

Please let me know what I am missing.

I cheked the sysattrribute table in database , it has rep
agent information which is coming from prod, thats why,
start rep agent command is not throwing any error, but in
error log communication error as its referring prod rs
server.

I'm assuming you've tried to replace dataserver/database names with dummy names since you've got a mix of messages
showing dataserver = {lon_ess_sql_uat3 | testing_ds} and database = { TEST_DB | ESS }.

While I understand the desire to maintain some level of anonymity, when you post with a mish-mash of names it raises a
couple questions ... 1) have you simply missed a couple replacements or are your system tables 'corrupt' and 2) what
other parts of your post are messed up due to incomplete replacements ... net result being that it's hard to tell which
issues are dataserver issues and which issues are a result of your attempt at replacing names ... ??

-------

As for the sp_config_rep_agent errors ... both are listed as coming from line 135.

Line 135 generates the 'Msg 18374 ...' based on the database's sysdatabases.status3 value (ie, database is being
shutdown or database *is* shutdown).

Line 332 generates a 'Msg 18374 ...' if the database's repagent has not been enabled (ie, repagent not defined).

At this point it looks like line 135 is generating the wrong error message ... thus leading us to think your repagent
has not been configured when in reality the database appears to be shutdown (based on status3 setting).

Before continuing with your attempt to get the repagent up and running I'd want to check on the status/health of your
primary database.

What does the following generate:

=====================
use master
go
select * from sysdatabases where name = 'TEST_DB'
go
sp_helpdb TEST_DB
go
=====================

Can you try removing/adding database from rs_init and see if that helps ?
