I use the following to connect to my IQ instance:
dbisql -datasource "sybase iq demo" -q -c "uid=aa;
eng=stockrecord;pwd=haha" -nogui
There is a major inconvenient, that anyone can see my
password while my session is running. I need therefore to
hide the password, unfortunately I have not been able to do
so, any suggestions as how to hide the password with dbisql?

You need to use a configuration file, you can then put your
login parameters in the file and thus all ps -ef will show
is that you are using a file. You could go further and make
the permissions on the file only visable for the user
running dbisql. See the link below for more info

Alternativley you can create a dsn using the iqdsn utility
for example:-

iqdsn -w "iqdemo" -c
"pwd=sql;uid=DBA;eng=iqdemo;links=tcpip(host=myhost:1234)"

Sybase IQ Data Source Utility Version 15.1.0.5034
Configuration "iqdemo" written to file
/usr/u/mateens/.odbc.ini

You can then run:-

dbisql -c "dsn=iqdemo" -nogui

The choice is yours!!
