Does anyone have production objects that take transactions
like HL7 charge messages and create a batch file with the
header FHS,BHS and Trailer records BTS, and FTS at the start
and end of the file? We have a need to send a batch file
of charges once a day, but our inbound systems are
transaction based.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Larry,
if the input is real time .. the best spot to do it would be
in the delivery side .. not in the production object ..

if the file built isn't too huge you could continualy suck
it back in and create a new footer each time .. (and only
build the header when the file is empty)

-
otherwise - you could manipulte the sender process
to take a file of transactions and add the header/footer as
part of this process

anyway ... I could discuss in email --

Thanks for the response. At this time, I am not sure how
the charge transactions will come inbound. I think it will
be a situation where the sending system will send all charge
transactions it has at 3AM or something like that,
effectivly a batch process. The number of charge
transactions would be very large. Do you happen to have any
examples of a delivery aim that creates headers and trailers
for a batch file?

Thanks for you help.

the accumulation of transactions which are effectively real
time into a single batch file .. requires that it know when
it is done.. - i don't expect that the final transaction is
any more unique than the others..
It would be easier to put the header/footer on - when it is
time to send it .. which would be an enhancement of that
process and not the delivery aim ..

I don't have an aim that does it .. but, if you had to do it
there .. and the transaction appear on a regular basis ..
and stop shortly after .. maybe it could be done..

the first transaction of the day .. finds an empty file with
the date .. use that to build the header (and reset any
counters)
the other transactions build the file . and update a counter
. then it might be possible to use a timer to trigger the
trailer creation .. basically if nothing arrives in 10
minutes .. end it.. of course more details would be needed
.
