I have an application which I am testing over the internet with AIS.
The first thing it does it is to open all the DBFs that it'll use, this task is takes 0:5:15 mins
which it seems like a long time.
There are 22 DBFs in total that 3 largest ones contain 300,000 180,000 and 100,000 records the other ones are very small.
The folowing is what I am using
XBase++ 1.9
Advantage data Architect 9
Server has a 4 MB ADSL windows server 2008 SPK1
The desktop I am using to call the server is a Windows XP Pro SPK3 and has a 1 MB ADSL
I am wondering if there is any other way to open the DBFs, or a setting I can add to the ads.ini file, or a macro I can run,
to open the DBFs faster than this.
Thanks in advance for you help.

I have no real software using AIS but I have done some test using Xbase
and AIS. I discovered Xbase load everything from the dictionnary when
you connect to it, this take a long time. Then every time you open a
file, it load all records until it find one that is not deleted
(depending on your data, this may take a while). I end up using SQL
and Delphi with AIS...

I heard XBase 1.90 SL1 is "supposed" to handle SQL query when connected
to ADS but have not tested it.

The only thing I know that could help you with current release is to
pack your dbf.
