I know I am doing something wrong and when I discover it, it is going to
turn out to be simple. But in the meantime.
I have a client who has a 10 user ADS license 8.0. They have one computer in
a remote location that they want to hookup. So I have set the Internet Port
to 6240 in the Advantage Configuration Utility. I went to the router and
forwarded the internal IP address of the server out port 6240, for both TCP
and UDP protocols. In ARC I created a new data dictionary, added a new user
and allowed internet access. I added one table to the Dictionary. Then I
checked on the external IP address (lets call it 22.44.66.6) assigned by the
ISP

Then from my computer (the client), using the ARC enviroment check utility
in the connect path I enter
//22.44.66.6:6240/myshare/mytest.add. I constantly get the a 6097 error
which means bad IP address.
I can ping the IP address (but not the port). I can log onto the server via
PCAnywhere to perform this work using the IP address. I just cannot connect
via AIS. I have tried from a number of other remote locations to the same
effect. If I use the enviroment check utility directly on the server what
happens is ARC32 crashes with an EAccessViolation error. Any ideas would be
greatly appreciated.

It is likely that either the server did not get the packetes from the client
or the client could not receive the packets from the server. You can use a
network sniffing utility such as ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com/) to find
out what's going on.

I am not sure why ARC32 crashes. Can you connect to the database not using
the internet port?

Why not build it with madExcept?

http://www.madshi.net/madExceptDescription.htm

It's a very impressive bit of software.

Hi Joachim,

I'm glad to hear it is now being built with madExcept (version 6.2 of
Arc32 wasn't).

...So didn't it help to find Peter Young's AV, or didn't he send in the
bug report?
