We have two ADS servers running under Linux with the following
specifications:

HP DL360G4
2x36GB U320 SCSI harddisk in RAID-1
3GB internal memory
Kernel 2.6.12.6
Debian sarge 3.1
ADS 8.0.0.11

One of these servers (MASTER) has a replication license and is used by the
clients.
The other (REPLICATION) is only used to have a real-time backup of the
MASTER database.

Recently the ADS process on the MASTER server runs out of memory and used
more than 3 GB of internal memory. Normally the ADS process uses 300MB of
internal memory.
After the crash we restart the MASTER server and start ADS. Within 5 minutes
the server crashes again. We restart the server again we see (ps aux) that
the memory usage of the ADS process extreme increased. The increase of the
memory usage stops after we disconnect all the users from the database.

We decide to run on the REPLICATION server, which runs without problems
until now.

The MASTER server was shipped to our office to test what's going wrong. But
the MASTER server did not crash anymore. Even not in the network of our
customer.

In the past we had more crashes of ADS, but after we upgrade from 8.0.0.8 to
8.0.0.11 (4 weeks ago) the MASTER server runs without troubles for 4 weeks.

What can be the problem and how can it be solved? When ADS stops working,
more than 100 employees cannot do their work. My customers is already
talking about another database system. Before May 2006 we run without
problems under Novell Netware. From May until now we have had almost 10
crashes of ADS.

please try to limit the MAX_CACHE_MEMORY if that helps.

Joachim,

Please can you answer my question? The ADS server of our customer crashed
again, after running 11 days without troubles.

the preferred setting depends on the available memory. We encountered
some issues with 8.0 consuming too much memory (so we limited it in
some cases to 1 GB). It was just a shot in the dark in your case now. I
recommend contacting Advantage Support at advantage@extendsys.de and do
a step-by-step error diagnostic.
